Listen to Elegant Ladies of Jazz playing So What
The Elegant Ladies of Jazz is an all female jazz combo made up of violin, French horn and piano.
The Elegant Ladies of Jazz is a trio of Anne Martin, violin, Karen Bucio, French horn and Bev Vanderlinden, piano. The trio has been together for about 2 years, having gone through a developmental stage consisting of Bev and Karen performing as an addition to Karen’s students’ recitals. Bev accompanied all of Karen’s students’ recitals at the Barkin’ Dog Grill, and afterwards Karen and Bev performed while the students then had dinner. We played both classical and jazz.
About two years ago we realized we really were enjoying the jazz aspect and invited Anne to join us. What a kick. We decided to pursue the exploration of jazz in more depth. Hopefully other classically trained musicians, as we three were, will open up to the idea of experimenting in these areas…especially those who play instruments not commonly associated with jazz. Our interpretations may be different than those of musicians brought up in the jazz traditions, but that does not make them wrong. The freedom of expression is the very essence of jazz. We are having a lot of fun and hope others enjoy our efforts.
